Low Viscosity ATF and Extended Drain Intervals

Low Viscosity ATF and Extended Drain Intervals

The goal of CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards is to increase the average fuel efficiency of all the vehicles on the road to 54.5 MPG by 2025. Every few years until then, manufacturers have a benchmark average MPG to reach. For 2016, the CAFE benchmark is 35.5 MPG. In order to meet these goals, OEMs are improving the efficiency of other vehicle systems such as the engine and transmission. In the transmission system, the focus is on the viscosity of automatic transmission fluid (ATF). ATF has gotten thinner and thinner and OEMs’ recommendations have begun to reflect that. In fact, 40 percent of new passenger cars in the U.S. call for low viscosity ATF. By 2022, that number is expected to be almost 75 percent. Low viscosity ATF offers a number of advantages over high viscosity ATF: Better fluid flow—Because low viscosity ATF is thinner, the transmission does not have to work as hard to push fluid through the system, improving efficiency and increasing pow ... read more

What is That Horrible Smell in my Car?

If your vehicle is giving off an unusual or sickening odor instead of that new-car smell, follow your nose and find the source of the aroma. Bad smells can lead to expensive repairs or health hazards and shouldn't be ignored. Here are some common odors and their possible causes: Musty: If turning on the air conditioner generates a musty smell, mold and/or mildew have probably formed in the air-conditioning system. Moisture naturally collects on the cold air-conditioning evaporator (a small radiator that carries refrigerant into the car's dashboard) and it may be harboring mold. Running only the fan at high speed (with the air conditioning off) can dry the evaporator. However, that doesn't guarantee the problem won't reoccur — especially if it's being caused by a clog in the drain tube that allows water to drip out under the car. A musty smell also can be caused by carpets that get wet when water leaks into the interior. Sweet ... read more

Why Choose Synthetic Motor Oil

No matter how well they're made, vehicles are bound to have problems with their design or manufacturing. Think of all the moving parts. When the government thinks a problem is really serious, they require the vehicle manufacturer to issue recall notices to GILBERT residents and to fix the affected vehicles free of charge. The they try to contact all GILBERT residents who own that type of car so they can have it taken care of at their GILBERT service center. To find out if your car has any recall issues, give us a call:Ace Performance Automotive 1730 W SUNRISE BLVD GILBERT, AZ 85233 480-539-6872http://www.aceperformanceauto.com These recalls always affect safety, so GILBERT residents would be wise to take them seriously. It's really easy to find out if a vehicle is being recalled. For links to government sites, look in the AutoNetTV website. Other website include: carfax.com ... read more

Tire Replacement at Ace Performance Automotive

Ever notice that your tire is covered with writing? It's like some hieroglyphic art form. Of course, GILBERT drivers know that it's not just graffiti, but to most of us, it might as well be. Would you like to know what all those codes on your tire mean? It won't lead you to buried treasure, but it could help you make a better tire purchase at your local GILBERT tire store. Prominently featured on your tire is a set of numbers and letters that looks something like this: 225 50 R 16 92 H. The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters, or the width between the sidewalls of the tire when it is fully inflated and not carrying a load. When GILBERT drivers replace tires, they need to match this width number, or the tires won't fit properly in the wheel wells. The 50 is the aspect ratio of the tire, which is measured by taking the height of the sidewalls and dividing it by the tread width. If you drive off-road around the GILBERT area, it should have a high aspect ... read more

Fuel Injection Cleaning at Ace Performance Automotive

In very simple terms, a fuel injector is a valve that squirts fuel into your vehicle engine. Your engine control computer tells the fuel injector how much fuel to deliver as well as the precise time it should be delivered. Of course this happens thousands of times a minute in every single fuel-injected vehicle driving down GILBERT roads. Most fuel injectors for gas engines are known in the GILBERT automotive community as port fuel injectors because they deliver the fuel to a port just outside the cylinder. The fuel pump provides pressure needed to squirt the right amount of fuel into the engine. A few have recently introduced gas direct injection systems on some engines. They are now available at some AZ dealerships. These systems inject the gas directly into the cylinders under very high pressure – many times the pressure of port injection systems. Keep Your Engine Cool in Gilbert AZ

GILBERT drivers rely on their vehicle's coolant system to keep their engine cool. Coolant (also called antifreeze) mixed with water flows through your vehicle engine and absorbs heat. The mixture then flows out to the radiator where it's cooled by air flowing over the radiator. From there the coolant/water mix circulates back through the engine to absorb more heat. There's a reason we mix coolant and water. Water alone actually does a good job transferring heat from the engine. The problem is that water boils at a temperature that's easily reached inside your vehicle's engine, so it can turn to steam which does not conduct heat as well and is harder to contain. Also, if it's freezing outside in GILBERT, the water in your engine could freeze while your vehicle is sitting out in the AZ cold. So, if you remember your high school chemistry, you'll know that a mixture has both a higher boiling p ... read more

Cabin Air Filter Replacement at Ace Performance Automotive

There are a lot of new features, both optional and standard, on GILBERT drivers' vehicles these days. One you may not have heard of is called a cabin air filter. Simply put, its job is to keep the air in the passenger compartment of your car nice and clean. A cabin air filter is similar to the filter you use on your furnace at home in GILBERT. Cabin air filters can catch particles down to three microns. By comparison, a grain of sand is 200 microns. So cabin air filters are effective against dust, dirt, pollen, mold spores and most pollutants in our GILBERT area atmosphere. Good news if you suffer from any types of allergies, or if you live in an area in AZ prone to air pollution. Cabin air filters are generally located in the engine compartment or under the dashboard. They can be tricky to access and replace, so you'll probably want to go to your friendly and knowledgeable service advisor at Ace Performa ... read more

Tracking True in Gilbert AZ: Wheel Alignment

At Ace Performance Automotive, we occasionally see severe tire damage that could have been prevented with proper wheel alignment. During a Ace Performance Automotive alignment service, your vehicle is put on an alignment rack where the tires, steering and suspensionparts are inspected for problems. Then the alignment is charted and checked against the vehicle factory settings. Adjustments are made to bring the wheels back into alignment. This gets all four wheels moving in precisely the same direction. If you don't remember hitting a pothole, how do you know if your wheels are out? The most obvious sign is that your vehicle pulls to one side. Also, your steering wheel may not be centered when you're going straight. If you're in the habit of checking your tire wear regularly, you may notice the edges of one or more tires rapidly wearing down. You should have your GILBERT auto service center look it over. Of course, if y ... read more

Will Proper Auto Maintenance at Ace Performance Automotive Really Save Gas?

Have you ever thought about all the little things we do to keep our lives running smoothly - like vacuuming? It makes a room feel fresher and more comfortable. We may not consider that we're also prolonging the life of the carpet by keeping it clean. But GILBERT drivers don't always extend those good habits into the garage. Our vehicles need regular maintenance just like our rugs need vacuuming. We may not notice a difference in the feel or appearance of the vehicle, but just as cleaning a carpet carries the hidden reward of prolonging its life, maintaining our vehicles incurs a hidden reward that becomes noticeable at GILBERT gas stations. When it comes to reduced fuel economy, there are two culprits: increased friction and inefficient fuel combustion. That means that anything GILBERT drivers can do to decrease friction and increase the efficiency of their engines will translate to savings on fuel. Friction increases the amount of energy it takes to move something. So if we ... read more

2018 Lexus LC 500 and LC 500H first test

2018 Lexus LC 500 and LC 500H first test

The new LC coupe isn’t concerned with performance numbers, and you shouldn’t be either. Despite some flaws, the LC 500/500h provide a luxury experience nobody else currently does. I recently posted a video of the 2018 Lexus LC 500 circling Motor Trend’s figure-eight course during our routine testing. One of the comments referred to the roar of the LC 500 hurtling past the camera and laying into the throttle: “I don’t think anyone [who] saw the car in photos/print expected it to sound like that. Expectations: Exceeded!” But that’s not the point of the 2018 Lexus LC 500. Indeed, the quad-cam 5.0-liter V-8 (internally, the 2UR-GSE engine) churns 471 horsepower at a glorious 7,100 rpm and sounds glorious doing so through its multimode exhaust. It’s heartening to know th ... read more
